The inspiration for this piece came to me when I saw a full color picture of a family holding a black and white polaroid of themselves. I remember thinking how creative it was having a color image and a B&W image, all in one. Then I thought to myself, "What if I could reverse that concept?" So that's what I eventually did.

I chose to use a beach as the location. I fixed the perspective so that the top frame of the portrait being held up, was perfectly parallel with the top crop of the photo. (Rhymed) After that, with the help of good ol' Adobe Lightroom, changing the photo black and white was relatively simple.

The next step was cutting the portrait out of the frame. Nothing personal it's a great portrait and all. I guess you could say it just didn't make the "cut". Ok I'll stop. This step was necessary so that I could place another image inside the space that the portrait originally held.

Alright! Now we need a photo to fill that empty space in the frame. Well here it is. I wanted the photo to be bright, colorful, and vibrant. My goal was to contrast the photo in the frame with the rest of image outside of the frame. Since the image outside the frame is black and white, the image inside the frame needed to really stand out to make that contrast work.

The final step was placing the color image into its rightful place. Mission accomplished.
