This is the original image I was given to work with. The job was to create a plaque for all the contestants of the "Taste of Gainesville" culinary competition. The plaques would be printed and displayed throughout the venue. This particular plaque was for Frankie Harvey, who ended winning the contest that year. Congrats Frankie!
I chose a single typeface with different fonts to make each portion stand out. The logo, which would be added later, has its own typeface included. I chose to stick with a single typeface to keep the plaque from getting to busy. I wanted the focus to stay primarily on the contestants name.
At this point I decided to add the logo on the top right. Because the subject is positioned more to the left, the right side of the plaque served as some good ol' empty space! I also added a smokey effect in Photoshop to give the plaque some intensity.
